Be More In Control Of Time With The Desktop Alarm Clock!

With the innovation of the internet buying a desktop alarm clock has never been easier. Until recently there was only one way to get a desktop alarm clock ñ you had to go to a store and buy one. Not only you would have to select from a very limited number of desktop alarm clocks, but hopefully you will find one that would suit your tastes.

Well, the problem with this approach to buying yourself an alarm clock for you desktop is that you are not likely to find sufficient styles of timepieces at any one store except if you go in knowing exactly what it is that you want. For instance, you may have no problem to find a digital desktop alarm clock at one store, but there might be no good looking analog kind with the classical look that some people may prefer. Or, just maybe you might find yourself in the position of shopping at a more expensive boutique and only discover flashy desktop alarm clocks with silly fake pillars at the sides of them, whilst all you want is something to display the time and maybe wake you up in the morning with a horribly annoying ring that is impossible to ignore.

No matter what you want in a desktop alarm clock, it should be pretty easy to find one at the supermarket or even your local drug store. As a matter a fact, desktop alarm clocks are undoubtedly the easiest piece of electric gear, one can find anywhere ñ so you shouldn’t have a problem.

For those who are looking for a desktop alarm clock, I recommend getting one with a clock radio, as the sounds coming out from the other one are really annoying, and for sure you can start off in a bad mood! Of course, you should also think about what you want the desktop alarm clock for. Well if you would like one to travel, perhaps you will find one for lesser than 15 dollars, wherein these small desktop alarm clocks can be powered for quite some time on nothing more than a battery. On the other hand if you want something that will look nice in your room, however, the considerations are more comfortable.

Frankly speaking, I hardly ever use my desktop alarm clock now that I have an alarm clock on my computer desktop. To wake me up in the morning, it can play any of my mp3s in stead of having to put up with whatever is on the radio, or even worse that awful beeping that most desktop alarm clocks have. In my opinion I believe it will soon leave the traditional desktop alarm clock obsolete.

Wake Up With An Alarm

Over the last thirty years of being a professional counsellor, I have obviously dealt with a wide range of people and an even wider range of issues. Depression is one of the issues that I have seen in a growing number of clients over the last decade. There are countless factors for this increase, and there are an equally high number of potential solutions to the problem. One of the first assignments that I give to all of my clients that are trying to overcome their battle with depression is to wake up to an alarm clock.

It sounds bizarre, I know, but I have found over the years that many of my clients dealing with depression all have one symptom in common: they sleep too much and they hate getting up and starting their days. It seems to be a quite obvious result of feeling depressed. I mean really, who can’t wait to get up and start a day if they are feeling depressed and hopeless about life. It makes total sense. And that is why I have started encouraging my clients to wake up to an alarm clock in the morning. Far too many people dealing with depression are so tired all the time that they figure that more sleep must be the answer. They figure that not setting and alarm and just letting themselves wake up on their own time must be the best way to get rested. Wrong.

If you are sleepy all the time, one of the worst things you can do is to let yourself sleep as much as you feel like. Especially when you are in the depths of dealing with depression, you need to be forced to get up and start your day even if you are tired. An alarm clock can be the perfect way to begin the battle against depression. I encourage my clients to set their alarm for a reasonable hour even if they have no where in particular to go the next morning. Making themselves get up and face the day is very important.

I have found that clients who begin waking up in the mornings to an alarm are slowly but surely gaining back a sense of purpose and even excitement about their days. They are slowly beginning to anticipate the sound of the alarm and to make themselves get moving no matter how they feel. It has been impressive to see people who were unable to get out of bed before noon getting up with an alarm around eight in the morning and taking time to get physically active before they start the day.

Waking up to an alarm will not be able to solve all of the problems associated with depression, but when partnered with other life choices, getting up to an alarm can be a great step in the battle against depression.

What an alarm clock can teach us about online collaboration

About 3 months ago I bought a new clock radio. Last night, I found that I needed to use the alarm for the first time. So I looked at all the buttons, took a wild guess as to how to set the alarm, and managed to change the correct time to the wrong time.

But failed to set the alarm.

So I searched the web and found a copy of the user manual. After following the instructions, I successfully set the alarm so that it would ring at 5:30am on every weekend morning for the rest of my life. But I still couldn’t set the alarm to ring the next day.

The solution? I went to a 24 hour pharmacy, bought an alarm clock for $5.99, plugged it in, and pushed the button labeled “set alarm.” Worked like a charm.

So what does this have to do with using technology to support online collaboration? Too many tools try to do too much. As a result, users simply refuse to even try to learn how to use them.

This creates a big problem if you need everyone to use the technology for the workgroup to work.

The answer is to implement a solution that users can understand. The downside is that it won’t do absolutely everything, but the upside is that everyone will use it. After all, the whole idea is to get everyone on board.

As you consider possible solutions, begin by taking a hard-look at the user interface and sharing it with some actual users. See if they can figure it out. If they can’t, the most likely problem is that they are faced with too many options.

So limit the options only to those that are critical to the needs of the group. The good news is that technology providers are beginning to recognise that there is a market for collaboration tools based on the concept that less is more ñ that by offering a simple solution, it will actually be used, fulfilling the promise of allowing individuals with varying levels of technical expertise to all work together.

Which, of course, is the whole point.

Travel Alarm Clocks – Your Traveling Companion

A traveler may experience an uncomfortable feeling especially if he’s on a place with a different time zone than they have back home. Every traveler needs his own alarm clock. Whether you are on vacation, on a business trip or for any other reason that you are traveling, an alarm clock is a very handy companion to tag along. This way you could keep track of your own time without depending on anyone else.

Alarm clocks should, of course, be portable. They should be able fit in your luggage without worrying that it will be broken. Another feature of your handy clock is that the numbers should be easily read and at the same time they should be easy to set. This way you would save yourself from fussing around trying to set the time for it to alarm. The purpose of the alarm clock is to wake you up on time. So choose one that wakes you up with familiar sounds like beeps or rings. This way you know that the sound comes from the clock and not somewhere else.

They come in different styles and features. Most of the alarm clocks for travel are relatively small. But some of them also come in like large pocket watch that flips open. This way the clock inside is protected from bumps while inside the suitcase. There are small clocks that look like cell phones too! Whatever the size of the travel alarm clock, surely, they always come with their protective cases.

Travel alarm clocks can be both expensive and cheap and are sold in all department stores as well as luggage shops anywhere. It depends on the taste of the traveler whether to pick a pricey or inexpensive one. The important thing is, it should function well and serve its purpose: to wake you up.

A special feature of a travel alarm clock is that you get to choose the alarm. There may be one that could record your favourite song that automatically plays on the set time. Other soothing sounds are available too! However if you’re the type that sleeps soundly, a soft toned alarm clock is not for you. You better choose one that has a loud alarm sound to wake you up.

Never choose an alarm clock that has to be plugged in for you never know when there will be a power failure. If this event happens, your alarm clock cant help you.

These alarm clocks have their own setbacks too just like your everyday alarm clocks like the battery running out before it alarms or the shaking of the clock might cause the battery inside to move thus stopping the alarm.

Travel Alarms – Be Punctual In Any Language

You forgot to remind the hotel receptionist to wake you up. After a night of mulling over what you are going to say in the meeting, you woke up to find out that you have overslept. Once again, you found yourself rushing to another meeting. You arrived twenty minutes late. You felt very uneasy as you entered the conference room. Nine pairs of eyes suddenly focused on you. And you could’ve sworn you heard one of them say spat wieder, in a soft disapproving voice. Late again! You winced, knowing the impact of this blunder to your negotiations and silently hoped the situation ahead wouldn’t be as grave as you thought it would be.

You’re late!

Sie sind spat! Siete in ritardo! Vous Ítes en retard! VocÍ est· atrasado! Osoi desu! These are the words that you don’t want to hear. Being late does leave a bad impression on people. It makes you look unreliable, irresponsible and inconsiderate. No one would like to make a deal with someone who would give him more stress and problems. Your clients impression of you can make or break your business opportunities.

You should also take into consideration that the embarrassment of being late can ruin your composure. No matter how much you have prepared the night before, you will end up stumbling and stuttering all over the place. Have you ever had this experience before? If so, has it happened a lot of times? If thats the case, what are you waiting for?

Its time for a change!

Maybe you should consider using travel alarms. Without the hassle of having to make phone calls or enduring the receptionists overly pleasant voice, travel alarms can make an early bird out of you. All you need are a couple of batteries as well as regular check ups. Just like cars, travel alarms need to be maintained in order to work efficiently. Of course, because all you need to do is check the power supply, the maintenance isn’t as complicated.

Travel alarms come in all shapes and some of them can fit in the palm of your hand. Even better, they come in trendy designs. Some travel alarms even come with a picture frame. So, you don’t have to leave home without a picture of your beloved family or your cherished pet. Not only can it keep you from being late, it also keeps your loved ones close no matter where you go. These travel alarms also come in a sturdy case so that you do not have to worry about the bumps and spills of a rough travel. These travel alarms can survive the worst travel conditions and the best feature of these travel alarms is their ability to wake up the heaviest of sleepers and the loudest of snorers. You can easily adjust the volume of the alarm. The loudest setting can wake you up no matter how deep your slumber is.

Never be late again

You shouldn’t entrust your career to other people. There is always a chance that the receptionist may forget to give you a wake up call. And, because of her failure, you will end up paying for it. So, put your trust on something that you can trust. A travel alarm clock will never let you down.

BBQ Grilling Versus Smoking – The Great Debate

We all have heard about barbecuing, but we are unaware of the real tricks in it. Barbecuing is also a form of art. To a person who is new to this art may get confused, because cooking meat in an open fire is a really tricky method. In order to get a really good and delicious bbq dish, one must have a lot of patience.Barbecuing can be done in two methods: through grilling and smoking. Grilling is the quickest method of cooking meat over a direct source of dry heat, whereas, smoking is a slow process, where the food is kept at a particular distance from the fire. Now let us take the two separately, to know the real processing.

BBQ Grilling

Grilling is of two types: direct and indirect. But before going into the details, let me tell you that there are three varieties of grills: charcoal grill, gas grill and electric grill. Charcoal grills are relatively inexpensive when compared to the other two. Now we’ll go back to the types of cooking. Direct method is a high heat method and is used for cooking relatively small pieces of food. Steaks, chops, chicken breasts, etc are some of the typical foods that can be grilled directly. In indirect method, as the name suggests, the food is kept to the side of the heat source. It is somewhat like baking a cake or such type of foods. Now we will move on to smoking.

BBQ Smoking

Smoking is the finest way to cook food, even though it takes time. If grilling is best for cooking smaller pieces, smoking is best for cooking larger pieces. Roasts, ham, ribs, brisket, etc are some of the foods that can be smoked. One must maintain a steady temperature, to come up with a deliciously smoked food. The normal, suited temperature for smoking is between 200-225 degrees. If you cook the meat until it’s 165 degrees in the middle, it would make the meat more tastier,as the smoke flavour gets deep into it.For basic bbq smoking, you can use the regular grill. The only thing that one must be aware while smoking is, the selection of right type of wood.Because, each wood is different in its own way. So we have to experiment with all sorts of wood to find out which one is the best. Smokers may vary in shapes and sizes. There are smokers running in gas and charcoal. But the heat coming from any type of smoker is a cooler one, which is why it takes a lot of time to smoke.

Now to end with it, barbecuing has to undergo one more process, that’s topping it with sauce. In fact it is the topmost ingredient, which one can’t omit while barbecuing.Types of sauce varies according to the region. If vinegar-base sauce is typical in Southern United States, tomato-base sauce is typical in Western United States. The best time to apply sauce is during the last stage of cooking. ie, when you are sure that the meat is well cooked, because, sugar is one of the main ingredients in barbecue sauces and it tends to burn easily. So you must cook the meat before you burn the sugar.

Raining Outside? Try Indoor Barbecuing

Yes, there is such a thing as indoor BBQ. But hey, indoor barbecuing doesn’t mean using your ever-reliable wood or gas grill. First of all, that’s illegal in most places because it’s a major fire hazard. Second, it could kill you since these types of grills produce large amounts of carbon monoxide. What you need to know is that there are two basic types of indoor grills ñ the open grill and the folding contact grill.

Indoor Barbecuing 101

An open grill is pretty much like the electric version of the wood/gas grill. It provides you with the outdoor barbecuing feel as you occasionally turn the meat while cooking and even produces flavour closer to the outdoor variety. . On the other hand, the folding contact grill works much like a panini press or sandwich maker. (Such as the George Foreman Grill). The upside to using this kind of indoor barbecuing grill is that is cooks your food faster as it simultaneously cooks both sides. Thus, it doesn’t require turning so you can do other things while grilling at the same time.

The George Foreman Grill is an electric grill which has non-stick grill surface, grooved to give those desirable grill marks on food and a cover which has the same type of grooved surface.

Food is placed on the grill and the cover is closed on top of it, enabling the grilling of food from both sides at once ñ cutting the normal grilling time in half. The grill is built with a tilt toward the front and a plastic dish is place under the front end so that fat can draw off away from the food. This is considered a low-fat feature. It also helps with the ease of cleaning in which George markets as one of the most important features of the grill.

The George Foreman also cooks food more evenly because the surface maintains a constant temperature that’s easy to control, so you won’t get hot spots or flare-ups. You should never use an extension cord with any electric grill, and always use an outlet with a ground fault circuit interrupter.

The George Foreman Grill currently comes in nine versions and prices range from £19.99 to £99.99

However, as we always say, equipment is just one aspect of producing amazing BBQ dishes. Though it’s true that using an indoor barbecuing grill means none of that smoky flavour, which only wood or coal can deliver, there’s definitely more to barbecue taste than smoky flavour. There are a variety of rich, bold flavours that characterise a good barbecue dish and these you can definitely get from a good marinade, dry rub or BBQ sauce. If you’re looking for the greatest ones with the richest and boldest flavours, visit and check out their wide selection of products, which can be delivered right to your very doorstep.

BBQ Myths Getting You Down?

If you’re cooking your food properly on your barbecue, you’re getting delightful results every time. However, all too frequently, people are falling victims to very common barbecue myths. It’s not because we’re gullible or stupid in any way. Many BBQ myths are so well known and so wide spread that they are more frequently passed on as truth than they are as the myths that they truly are.

For example, many people love to try to get perfect grill lines on their BBQ foods. Either straight lines, or the more fancy criss-crossed ones are often accepted as a sure sign of the expert BBQ chef. What this involves is flipping your meat, so that the lines are on the both sides. However, many people don’t ever get to achieve this art form because they have fallen victim to one of the main barbecue myths. They believe that flipping or poking your grilled food makes it tough ñ this is a myth. In fact, flipping your meat not only creates great grill lines, but it also makes certain that you cook more evenly.

While you read up on the swath of information available for providing tips and tricks for the best results on your BBQ, make sure that your source is reliable. While some of this information is very helpful, much of it can be exaggerated or based on what the author thinks rather than what is actually known.

The belief that poking or flipping your food will let all of the juices out and make it tough would only work if your food was shaped exactly like a balloon ñ which it isn’t. Meat is made up of hundreds of small cells, each filled with its own moisture and juices. Should you poke your meat with a fork while it’s on the grill, you may pop one or two cells, but it won’t let all of the juices out only that of the cells you’ve punctured. Certainly, if you repeatedly stab and puncture your meat, many of the cells will be broken, and you’ll lose a great deal of your juices, but other than in a horror movie, there really isn’t any reason to treat your meat that way.

Similarly, flipping your meat doesn’t let a great deal of the juices out either. After all, flipping doesn’t puncture any of the cells, so as long as you don’t flip it and smack it hard, then you won’t lose much by the way of juices at all. Be gentle its already dead!

The problem with flipping your meat on the grill lies when cooks use their spatulas and other tools to squish the meat after it has been flipped, often trying to squeeze out the grease. By flattening the cells in the meat, much of the moisture and juices are pushed out, leaving the meat dry.

So flip those burgers and poke that steak! Get those grill lines just the way you want them. Your food will always be good and juicy, just like the pros do it.

Cleaning Your Own Carpeting

Cleaning your own carpet can be a great way to save some money. If it is not done properly, however, you can end up with quite a mess. This article will provide you with tips on using a rental carpet cleaner on your carpets at home.

carpet cleaner rental

The first thing you have to do is find a good carpet cleaning machine. You can find them at most home improvement and supermarkets. Look for one in good condition that isn’t too beat up or old. The older the machine, the weaker the vacuum and water pump probably is. Find a machine in good condition and also purchase the carpet cleaning shampoo that is sold with the machines. Do not even think about using dish soap or any other homemade concoction.

The first step, once you get the machine home is to thoroughly pre-vacuum your carpet. Do not overlook this step because soil is much easier to remove when it is dry. Go over the carpet in several different directions, taking your time.

The next step is where I will differ from the directions on the carpet cleaning machine. They usually want you to fill the machine with a shampoo solution. This means that you are rinsing with the solution and you will leave a lot of residue. Instead, mix the cleaning solution in a separate pump-up sprayer. You can find one gallon garden sprayers at any home improvement store. Now spray the carpet evenly with the cleaner. Do not over wet the carpet, spray the solution evenly and then let it dwell for 5 to 10 minutes. Dwell time will allow the solution to break down and absorb the soils.

Next, fill the carpet cleaning machine with plain warm water. After letting the solution dwell, you will make a pass over the carpeting to rinse the cleaning solution out. If your carpet is heavily soiled or you used a lot of cleaning solution, you may need to make two passes over the carpet. Your goal here is to remove as much of the cleaner as possible in order to leave the least amount of residue.

Finally it is time to dry your carpets. The quicker you get them dry, the less likely it is that spots will return and the less likely you are to get water marks. Turn your ceiling fans on and get out any portable fans you have and aim them at the carpet. If it is a nice dry day, open your windows or doors. The more airflow you get to your room the better.

Well, that’s it. That’s all there is to it. Just remember to take your time and do not take shortcuts. Follow these simple steps and you can easily clean your own carpet.

Choosing The Right Carpet Cleaner

rental carpet cleanerChoosing a decent carpet cleaner is a lot easier said than done as there are so many carpet cleaning companies, each one claiming to be the best. So deciding which one is the best for you can be very hard. However, if you follow the tips below, you will have no problems finding a carpet cleaner which is ideal for you and your home.

First of all, you should know what your choices are in cleaning methods and you should also know which
one is the one you’ll want to choose, as there are several available to choose from. A dry extraction type of cleaning will use a compound that contains detergents what will free stains and dirt which will
then allow them to be vacuumed up.

Dry foam on the other hand may be used by applying foam to the carpet and then vacuuming it up with a
wet vacuum. You can also choose a vacuum that uses stronger chemicals and a stronger suction to get
dirt up. For your needs, you should choose the vacuum accordingly.

Once you know your options, talk to family and friends for their recommendations. There are several places on the internet that offer reviews for local as well as nationwide carpet cleaners.

You can also get estimates as well. Find out what the professionals charge and what is considered to be extra. You should also find out what chemicals are going to be used, how long the process will take, and whether or not they plan to move any furniture.

You’ll want to make sure that chemicals used are going to be safe for you, your children, and also your pets. If you are using a professional company, you’ll want to let them know what type of carpet you have. If you don’t let them know and you have a type of carpet that will shrink or change colour during cleaning, you’ll probably be in trouble.

Probably the most important thing, is to know who is coming to your home. You should always make sure that you know the history of the carpet cleaner as well as inquire if background checks are performed by the company. These steps will help to keep you and those you love safe.

Follow the above tips, and you’ll have no problems with finding the right carpet cleaner. There are many types to choose from, as well as professional cleaning companies.

If you are considering whether or not to use a professional carpet cleaner, you should consider the alternatives as well. First, spot removal isn’t the only necessary carpet cleaning that you need to do, nor is the vacuuming.

Even home carpet cleaning machines won’t do as good of a job as a professional model can do. When you use these types of carpet cleaners, you can help to preserve your carpeting for years and years to come.

As mentioned in our dust mite article, professional cleaning helps lots of people who have allergies to feel better. If you suffer with allergies, you may find that professional cleaning of your carpets may be the best way to solve many of your carpet problems.

Can you do it?

In a nutshell, it makes the most sense to have your carpet professionally cleaned. It does not really cost a lot of money, yet it will give you the peace of mind in knowing that your carpet is very clean and help your health.

If you have been looking to clean your carpet or have it cleaned, professional is without a doubt the way to go. You don’t have to bother with it yourself, yet you’ll know that your carpet is going to be cleaned right – by someone who knows exactly what they are doing.

Carpet Cleaning Myths to Junk

Carpets have been around for a very long time and so have methods to keep them clean. With the progression of time, new carpet cleaning methods have created a lot of myths which put people of from getting and keeping their carpets clean.  A dirty carpet is full of dust and mites and is a breeding place for germs and diseases.

carpet cleaning myths

Did you know that dirty carpets pollute the air you breath inside your house which can result in a number of health problems that you and your family might suffer from.

So, to make sure that you keep your family healthy and your home clean, you really should clean your carpet regularly.

If the myths below have been keeping you from cleaning your carpets regularly, then we bust them here so that you may provide yourself and your family a cleaner and healthier home.

You Should Not Vacuum Carpets Too Much

Hetty-HooverWhen we see small balls of fluff getting sucked into the vacuum cleaner every time we vacuum, we think that we are losing portions of our carpet. However, research has proved that vacuuming does not really destroy your carpet or make it thin and you can easily vacuum a carpet three to four times a week without losing it for a large number of years. Considering that an average carpet is vacuumed only three to four times a month, it is imperative that you increase the frequency of your vacuuming.

Professional Carpet Cleaning Shrinks Carpets

Gone are the days when carpets used to made out of shrinkable natural materials like pure wool and silk on a jute base. The majority of carpets today are made out of nylon tied on a synthetic base. Since almost all of us know that synthetics do not shrink even in hot water, there are absolutely no chances of your carpet shrinking or losing colour due to steaming or hot water extraction. On the other hand, if you actually have a woollen or silk carpet, then hiring professionals for cleaning it is a better option since they will know what to use while cleaning it so that it loses neither colour nor size.

Cleaning A Carpet Makes It Get Dirtier Faster

This actually happens to a lot of us. We notice that a carpet’s propensity for becoming dirty increases exponentially the moment it gets cleaned. Unfortunately this is not due to cleaning but because of dirty cleaning. If your carpet does not get cleaned properly and remains of cleaning chemicals are left in it, then it is bound to attract more dust and grime than it was doing earlier.

Therefore, it is important that the carpet is cleaned properly and remains of chemicals totally removed. If this is done, your carpet will not pick up any more dirt than it was doing earlier. In fact, getting a Scotchgard coating will ensure that it remains neat and clean for a long time to come. The trick here is to hire a good professional carpet cleaning company that knows its job instead of trying to do it yourself or hiring cheap but incompetent people.

Carpet Cleaning Tips And Secrets

You can use all the carpet cleaning tips in the world, and guess what? You still probably can’t get your carpet as clean on your own as a professional carpet cleaner can. On the other hand, who needs perfection?  The tips here will help you get that carpet clean enough.

carpet cleaning tips and secrets

Heat helps! Above 118 degrees fahrenheit, every 18 degrees higher changes chemical reactivity by 100%. Hot water extraction cleaning is done between 150 and 200 degrees. Is that too technical? The point is not only that hot water extraction, or “steam cleaning” is far superior to “dry cleaning,” but that if you do it yourself, use heat!

Actually, there are three inter-related factors at work when you clean carpet. Heat, Dwell Time, and Agitation. To some extent, if you can’t maximise one of them, you can make up for it with the others. In other words, if you can’t get the cleaning solution hot enough, let it “dwell” a bit longer in the carpet, and scrub harder.

Secret Carpet Cleaning Tips

Vax Ultra Plus Carpet Cleaning SolutionDetergent attracts dirt. This is why it’s important to rinse out any cleaning solution thoroughly. This is another reason why hot water extraction gets carpet cleaner than the “dry” methods. The bottom line is that you need to rinse well when you clean carpet.

One way to clean stains is with the use of a shop-vac. It is not possible to simply pull out the stain from the carpet, but you can wash, rinse and repeat the effected area, and suck up the cleaning solution each time. This is a far more effective method than simply soaking up the water with cloth or towel, simply because you will not have the patience to wash, rinse, extract and repeat enough times and the job will not be properly completed.

Another little secret of the carpet cleaners is putting rugs outside and inside the front door. They can catch much of the dirt that people bring in on their feet. This isn’t just about less vacuuming, though. Dirt is like thousands of little blades that cut carpet fibres. The damaged carpet stains more easily then, and it’s harder to remove the stains. An even better practice is to take off your shoes in the house.

Tip 1

Make sure that you get a deep cleaning of the carpet as often as it is needed. To achieve a clean carpet, you’ll need to have it cleaned by a professional or you’ll need to use a deep cleaning machine. There are advantages and disadvantages to this method, although a thorough cleaning is needed every six months or so.

Tip 2

Keep your eye out for spills and take care of them in a quick manner to keep your carpet clean. Simply using water on a spill will help most of them. If that doesn’t work, simply expand your search. You’ll find several products out there on the market that can help you get rid of spills quick.

The products range in use and can be helpful when matching them with the different types of spills.  You can also use a mixture of water and vinegar to help you keep stains out. By taking immediate action you can prevent spills from becoming stains that leave you with a dirty and messy carpet.

Tip 3

They say that a clean carpet is a carpet that from the day it was bought has been taken care of really well. So take the time to vacuum your carpet regularly and make sure you do a thorough job. You can do this by hoovering the floor in lots of directions to allow the hoover time to pick up all it can. High powered vacuums are the best choice, as they get up the most dirt from your carpets and floors.

Tip 4

The proper use of entrance will greatly help to clean off people’s shoes and keep most of the tracked soils off the surface of the carpet. You should always use entrance mats outside of your doors and make sure that anyone who enters your home use the mats to help get debris and dirt off of their shoes before they enter. You can also take off your shoes and request that guests do the same, prior to entering your home.

Around 80% of the soils that enter a building or home are dry. The remaining 20% are greases, oils, and starches. The dry soil types are easily removed by vacuuming. As long as they are removed on a daily basis, it will help to minimise the damage to the carpet.

Vax W90-RU-P Rapide Ultra 2Maintaining and keeping a clean carpet is more than just healthy, as it can also help to prolong the life of the carpet. If you have just laid the carpet, you are already aware of the expenses involved with doing so.

Even if you haven’t had this done, you probably know the benefits of keeping a clean carpet. A clean carpet will add value to the home if it is maintained well. It will also help to keep the home free from odours as well. Also, it will help to make a comfortable living area for your friends and your family.

Ready to clean? Vacuum first. Then, if you use one of those portable machines, at least get the water as hot as you can. Dry the carpet quickly, using fans to move the air around. You will find that it is possible to lengthen the timeframe between expensive professional cleaning jobs, by using these simple but very effective carpet cleaning tips.

Dealing with Carpet Stains

Everyone has a different approach to combating fresh stains on a carpet. Most consumers are quick to run to a nearby cabinet to snatch some sort of solution and pour it over the stain. While this may seem like a smart idea, it’s really not. Many people end up damaging their carpets by acting in such an expedient and rash manner.

stain-removal-helpAs of today, there are various types of carpets available to consumers and each made out of different materials. What creates an issue is that many consumers don’t pay attention to the type of carpet they have. Thus, as they shop for a cleaning solution they grab the one which seems most fit to them. When they dab their carpet with this solution, they usually find it has an opposite effect and one thats not very desirable. We recommend stocking up on some neutral carpet cleaning supplies, ones that are fit for just about any material.

However, there are some specific cases that may require special more than just some cleaning solution. Stains that are the result of ink, wine, or pet urine may require the attention of a qualified professional. If you are up to the task, you could consider tackling the project yourself. This would require some equipment rentals and a bit of elbow grease. You will find, in the end that its a wiser choice to have a professional do it.

So how does a professional go about cleaning carpet stains? First off, he or she asses the carpet and decides on the best treatment option. Some common cleaning techniques include dry chemical cleaning, steam cleaning, hot water extraction, and dry cleaning. Depending on the severity and type of stain, the carpet cleaner will choose an appropriate process. Although you may be convinced that you could save money by cleaning your carpet yourself, you will end up paying more.

Carpet stains are unfortunate but shouldn’t be made a huge deal of. If you know what to do when a stain first appears, you should have no problem getting rid of it and getting back to enjoying your carpet

Cleaning Carpet Stains – Harmless And Simple!

  • carpet cleaning productsDid you know that a number of  common household cleaning products you would normally use to clean a carpet stain may actually damage your carpet?
  • Did you also know that ‘clear’ liquid cleaning products are better for removing carpet stains than ‘opaque’ liquid detergents?
  • What about this question: When you are blotting a carpet stain, should you work inward or outward to clean the carpet stain?

Take a look at the tips below, you will be surprised how much you can learn and how helpful they will be.

Carpet Cleaning Stain Removal Tips:

Collect the below items and keep them handy in all together so they are easy to find:

  • A clear or transparent liquid detergent (do not use opaque or coloured detergents as these can leave a residue that attracts more dirt, which defeats the purpose).
  • A spot remover that works against grease and other dirt, such as Dr. Beckmann’s carpet stain remover.
  • Club soda.
  • Ammonia – which you will mix 1 x tablespoon to 1 x cup of water (do not use on wool).
  • Polish remover – do not use a oil based version as this will leave marks.
  • Vinegar – which you will mix 1 x white vinegar to 1 x water.
  • Non coloured paper towels or cloths.
  • One of the best methods to clean stains from your carpet is to
    • Collect as much of the spillage as possible
    • Blot the spillage inward (blotting outward can make the stain worse/bigger)
    • Use one of the items mentioned above for cleaning carpet stains. Remember that a lot of other common household cleaning products contain chemicals that can damage the carpet, upholstery or rug.
    • Once cleaned, rinse the stain spot with the least amount of water as possible, do not soak everything as you can also get water stains if you are not careful
    • Pack the cleaned, stained area with your white paper towels or white cloths, whatever you are using.
    • Add a weight on top of the cloths/paper towels to compress the wet area and leave it for 24 hours.

The following preventative tips can help you extend the life of your carpets:

  • Use a carpet mat, especially in doorways to external exits and keep them clean so much is not trod onto your hallway and living room carpets.
  • Decide which system you will use for cleaning stains and your carpets regularly, and stick to it, otherwise when you do come to cleaning, the stains will be very hard to remove!

Carpet Spot Removal

carpet cleaning productsAnyone who has experience with carpets at home or at work, knows the types of accidents that can happen. Carpet is very common in most houses these days, making the likelihood of accidents and spills all the more common. Regardless of the spillage, be it mud, milk or blood, if you know what you are doing, you will find that there are effective ways to clean everything.

You will find that at your local shop or supermarket there are several cleaning products that you can choose from that will work great. The only issue with these cleaning detergents is that the instructions on how best to should use them can be a little vague.

Rule number 1 – if you have a red stain on your carpet, do not attempt to clean this yourself, get a professional in to do the job properly.  They know what they are doing and with stains like this, you could easily ruin your carpet.

Remember –  red is the toughest stain to get out. A professional carpet cleaner is properly trained and equipped to handle this effectively with no risk to your carpet.

Now that we have got that out of the way, the good news is that for other spillages and stains there is always an effective and cheap way to clean stains from both your carpet, rugs and upholstery.

Tip – The first thing to do is go to your local Halfords or car parts shop and pick up some of their car upholstery and carpet cleaner. Auto Glym is one of the best you can get and is also available online at Amazon and other good retailers, as they say.  Most cleaners that come in a can or squirt bottle are foaming cleaners, which basically means they make your cleaning work a lot easier.

The detergent foam used in these cleaners penetrate the fibres and the stains are released and suspended in the foam . You will need to lightly scrub the stained areas to get the detergent foam working but it really is an easy job.

To help you clean stains, the tips below may come in handy when trying to remove spots:

  1. Only use white cloths or towels when you clean carpet and upholstery (as mentioned above) to reduce the risk of colours running together.
  2. Foaming cleaners definitely make it easier to clean your upholstery, even if the product label states dry clean only.

Tip – test your cleaning product or detergent on a hidden area just incase it has an adverse effect, better to be safe than sorry.

Stain Sport Removal Conclusion

As long as you are not looking to remove a red stain from your carpet or upholstery, you really should not have any issues getting stains out. Stains and spots are a carpet’s and your worst enemy, which is why you should not leave them to set for too long, always get them out as soon as you can, whilst it is still easy.

Choose Your Carpet Cleaning Detergents Carefully

Dirtbusters Clean and deodorise ConcentrateYou have likely spent a lot of money on your carpeting, so it makes perfect sense that you also want to take care of it. These days everything seems to be getting better and better, your carpet cleaning detergents is no different.

There are many carpet cleaning chemicals available on the market today, and the correct choice depends on the job you need done. Carpet cleaning chemicals can be loosely divided into four categories, according to their function: cleaning, controlling or counteracting odours, protecting and sealing, and those chemicals designed for special tasks.

Examples are myriad. Here are a few:

Carpet cleaning chemicals for extracting soil are only the most obvious. There’s a pre-spray chemical, a carpet spot and stain remover chemical, a dry cleaning solvent and spot remover, the ubiquitous absorbent powder extraction chemical, and even a neutraliser to put everything back the way it wasÖ only better.

Odour control carpet cleaning chemicals, as can be expected, work to neutralise or rid the carpet of odours, usually created by pets. Many have a subtle citrus fragrance.

The field of carpet protectants and sealing is perhaps where the new carpet chemicals really shine. Some are dry and some spray on, all are considered state-of-the-art necessities to protect the look and life of your carpet.

A good example of the specialty items category is the chemical used in professional extraction machines to cut down on the production of foam.

Choosing from the cornucopia of carpet cleaning chemical products can be daunting. But taking the time to research the right choices for your particular situation will be rewarding.

The experts recommend you set up a regular carpet cleaning program. Vacuum daily, they say, dry carpet clean once a week, and use a heavy-duty deep steam (or vapour) carpet extracting machine as often as necessary to keep your carpeting bright, beautiful and healthy.

How many Dust Mites in 1 Square Metre of Carpet?

Leading allergists agree that wood floors are the perfect choice for a healthy home. According to the American Lung Association, by having wooden floors in your bedroom and other rooms can dramatically improve air quality in your home for you and your household. When you think about it, it is not a surprising statement when a very big American company which recycles old carpet has said that most of the used carpeting it receives for recycling contains at least 35% of its weight in household dirt.  Yes, you just read that right!  35% of the carpets weight is muck…

dust mites cleaning

A report by the Healthy Flooring Network draw’s information from several reports and experiments carried out by leading health groups worldwide. It draws broad conclusions on the role fitted carpets play in determining the total allergen load in the home and the importance of this on the level of allergic disease suffered by you and your family.

Comprehensive studies in the United Kingdom found that 50-70% of asthma suffers are also allergic to house dust mites. Did you know that up to 100,000 dust mites live in just one square metre of carpet? It is reported that 98% of UK homes have carpets fitted which is why you can easily see that the UK has the highest occurrence of asthma in 13-14 year olds in the world at 19.8%, along with the second highest rate of eczema.

Carpets that are treated have themselves come in for huge criticisms. When tested 3 out of 4 carpets that were listed as being treated against dust mites contain chemicals of a hazardous nature. Theses chemicals included organotins, phthalates, permethrin, triclosan, brominated flame retardants and formaldehyde. The World Health Organisation has recommended that the carpet treatments used are less hazardous alternatives.

dust mite carpetOne study showed that the mite allergen concentration in dust from carpets could be 6-14 times higher than that from wood & laminate flooring.

Exposure to the mites in the first, crucial year of life can trigger a lifelong allergy. There is no cure, only prevention – controlling house dust mite populations – focusing on dust control, to reduce the concentration of dust-borne allergens in the living environment by controlling both allergen production and the dust which transports it.

House dust mites are not just restricted to carpets there are nearly universal in occurrence, a typical bed mattress may have contain anything from 100,000 to 10 million mites. Ten percent of the weight of a two year old pillow may be composed of dead mites and their droppings

Pet Allergens

Pets are the second most important cause of domestic allergy and over 50% of asthmatic children are sensitised to allergens of cats and/or dogs. As with human allergies, having fitted carpets is strongly associated with having high pet allergen levels. Even when you remove a pet from a house the allergen levels can remain extremely high for quite some time to come.

Points to Note

  • Carpets contain the largest amount of mite allergens in your house
  • By having fitted carpets in your home will dramatically increase the total mite allergen level compared to having laminate or wood flooring.
  • Up to 100,000 mites may live in one square metre of carpet.
  • Carpets 6-14 times more dust mite allergens than laminate or wood flooring.
  • Fitted carpets increase pet allergen levels for the same reason why they increase mite allergens.

How can we help reduce the number of dust mites?

  • Replace feather and down pillows with synthetic fillings.
  • Enclose the mattress top and sides with a plastic cover, thoroughly vacuuming mattress pillows and the base of the bed. Dampen and wipe the plastic mattress cover daily.
  • Change and wash pillowcases, sheets, and under blankets, and vacuum the bed base and around the covered mattress weekly.
  • Use nylon blankets rather than woollen or cotton ones.
  • Wash all bedding, including blankets, mattress pads and comforters and curtains, as often as possible, in hot water (60oC weekly).
  • Frequent hoovering as a solution is likely to aggravate allergic asthmatic conditions because conventional vacuums are inefficient as dust collection by conventional hoovers results in an increase in air borne dust. Vacuuming is best performed by cleaners that trap dust in a liquid medium such as water rather than a dust bag, i.e. use a carpet cleaner every now and again to actually effectively remove allergens.
  • Replace carpets with wood, tile, linoleum or vinyl floor coverings. (If you have carpets, vacuum every day.)
